In 1969 she was one of the sensations at the Woodstock festival. Her break throu was at the Monterey Festival in 1966 with her band Big Brother and the Holding Company. The album 'Cheap Thrills' was a major succes, not in the least bit because of the artwork by Robert Crumb. I'm a big fan of his work and I took the liberty to start off with his sleeve design. Janis always sang from the heart in songs like 'Me and Bobby McGee', 'Cry baby', 'Try (just a little bit harder)' and 'Mercedes Benz'. She was a speadfreak and not only in her Porsche. Funny she asked for an upgrade in her song 'Mercedes Benz', next to a color TV and a night on the town. She died of an overdose in a Los Angeles hotel room.
